Il Belucistan \u00e8 grande pi\u00f9 o meno come la Germania ed \u00e8 la provincia pachistana allo stesso tempo pi\u00f9 grande e pi\u00f9 povera. Ed \u00e8 anche la scena di una lunga e sanguinosa guerra civile che oramai perdura da decenni: da una parte il governo centrale pachistano, e dall\u2019altra i nazionalisti del Belucistan, che dal 1948, un anno dopo la nascita del Pakistan, combattono per la loro indipendenza. Sono organizzati in gruppi di ribelli designati quali esercito di liberazione del Belucistan e Fronte unico per la liberazione del Belucistan. E mentre il governo chiama i militanti del Belucistan \u201cterroristi\u201d, gli abitanti del Belucistan rinfacciano invece al governo pachistano di commettere pulizia etnica. Gli abitanti del Belucistan sono\u00a0una minoranza etnica\u00a0con la loro lingua, le loro tradizioni e la loro cultura particolari. Vivono in Iran, Pakistan e Afghanistan, ma si sentono molto svantaggiati ed alienati da parte del governo di Islamabad. L\u2019intensit\u00e0 del conflitto varia oramai da decenni. Il conflitto si calm\u00f2 nel 1977 in seguito all\u2019introduzione della legge marziale, ma scoppi\u00f2 nuovamente nel 2005 in seguito allo stupro\u00a0\u00a0di una donna\u00a0medico, la dott.ssa\u00a0Shazia Khalid, probabilmente da parte di un ufficiale militare. Questo stupro provoc\u00f2 un\u2019ondata di violenza e di atti di vendetta da entrambi le parti, inclusi due tentativi di attentato contro il presidente pachistano Pervez Musharraf durante le sue visite nella provincia del Belucistan.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Gli abitanti del Belucistan non sentono nessuna lealt\u00e0 nei confronti del governo centrale. \u201cIl Pakistan ha gi\u00e0 perso il Belucistan, pero non lo abbandoner\u00e0\u201d, dice\u00a0\u00a0Burzine Waghmar del Centro studi sul Pakistan presso la Scuola degli studi orientali ed africani di Londra. Anche se si tratta della regione pi\u00f9 povera e meno popolata di tutto il paese, essa \u00e8 comunque anche ricca di risorse naturali, tra cui petrolio, gas e minerali. Ma anche i gruppi armati dei ribelli (Islamabad accusa New Delhi di finanziarli) non si fermano dinnanzi alla violenza indiscriminata. Anche se gli Stati Uniti non designano i ribelli belucistani quali terroristi, comunque viene loro messo in conto un gran numero di violazioni contro i diritti umani, quali ad esempio l\u2019uccisione di \u201ccoloni\u201d civili dell\u2019etnia pashtun, dai medici agli operai edili, e la minaccia e persino l\u2019uccisione di giornalisti. Va comunque messo in rilievo che la gran parte di queste accuse \u00e8 difficile da dimostrare visto che \u00e8 quasi impossibile recarsi in questa regione per riferirne.  
Le forze armate pachistane vietano l\u2019accesso al Belucistan ai giornalisti stranieri. Dal 2006 diversi corrispondenti, tra cui i reporter del New York Times<\/em> Declan Walsh e Carlotta Gall, furono espulsi dal paese, dopo essersi recati in segreto in Belucistan per scrivere degli articoli. E i reporter locali sono troppo intimiditi per provarci: \u201cVige un accordo non scritto secondo cui tutti coloro che parlano del Belucistan violano degli \u201cinteressi nazionali supremi\u201d\u201d, racconta Malik Siraj Akbar, un giornalista pachistano, esiliano negli USA dopo essere stato il redattore capo di un quotidiano in Belucistan.<\/p>\n\n\n
