SDSN – Sustainable Development Solutions Network
Produced by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), with world-renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs as a lead author, the report provides the most comprehensive ranking of all UN Member States across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s SDR highlights key priorities for the next decades of sustainable development and includes an Index of Countries’ Support for UN-Based Multilateralism (UN-Mi), which tracks countries’ engagement with the UN system, and features two new surveys focused on government efforts for the SDGs, challenges, and means for implementation. Finland tops this year’s SDG Index, followed by Sweden (#2) and Denmark (#3).
Additional Key Findings Include:
- Global Commitment: Despite only 16% of the SDG targets on track to be achieved by the 2030 deadline, the vast majority of UN Member States remain committed to the SDGs.
- Fastest progress: Since 2015, East and South Asian countries have recorded the strongest SDG progress. Among major economies, India (+18) and China (+14) show the largest rank improvements.
- Global progress is lagging: Goals related to cities, the environment, sustainable agri-food systems, and peace are particularly off-track.
- Commitment to Multilateralism: Barbados leads again in UN-based multilateralism commitment, while the United States ranks last for the third year in a row.
- Strengthening implementation is key: Respondents to the SDSN’s new surveys indicated broad support for maintaining the SDG framework beyond 2030, pointing to financing, governance, and the use of science and data as the areas most in need of strengthening.
